What is Gi60 and how can you be involved?

Gi60 (Gone in 60 Seconds), the world’s first international 60 second play writing festival started life in 2003 as one strand of a new writing festival in a tiny studio theatre in North Yorkshire. Since that time, Gi60 has blossomed into a global theatrical event. In a unique festival of new writing which spans the globe, Gi60 premiers no less than one hundred new plays each year. Fifty new plays, each one lasting no longer than sixty seconds, are performed live in the UK, while on the other side of the Atlantic, another fifty are brought to life at the New Workshop Theater in Brooklyn, New York. All one hundred plays are filmed and available to watch on the Screaming Media web site.

With no cultural boundaries, Gi60 produces a diverse, fast paced, funny and thought provoking one hundred minutes of original theatre reflecting the views of its worldwide contributors, and all available to download to your computer or mobile phone.

In 2009, Gi60 event creator Steve Ansell and Rose Burnett Bonczek, director of Gi60 in New York, were invited to speak about Gi60 at the prestigious Association for Theatre in Higher Education and American Alliance for Theatre & Education conference held in New York; a highly competitive submission conference, only a few proposals are selected for presentation from the thousands received. Rose Burnett Bonczek, who is Associate Professor and Program Head – BFA Acting Program at Brooklyn College New York, authored the proposal which was selected for the conference entitled “Risking Innovation”. Together with Steve Ansell, Rose Burnett Bonczek gave a presentation entitled “Downloadable Theatre and the Global Ensemble”. Gi60’s presence at the conference, which is attended by theatre professionals from all over the world, well and truly endorses its groundbreaking theatrical credentials.
